Planting Lettuce

Yesterday in the garden we pulled out dying cucumbers and zucchini and replanted the beds with lettuce. Hopefully the lettuce will grow quickly and we will be able to harvest it before the weather gets really cold.

Here is the bed right before we planted it with lettuce but right after we pulled out the zucchini.
Here a young garden visitor holds up mesculin lettuce mix seeds.

New Growth in the Garden

There are new things popping up in the garden and it's very exciting! Our first Cosmos flower showed up recently which is great. Hopefully more will show up in the next few days.

Here is a young tomatillo, maybe we can harvest it and the others on the plant soon.

Come help out at the garden from 5-6 on weekdays, soon we are going to start preparing the garden for winter.

Just Another Rainy Monday

Although it was an overcast day, we were able to squeeze in some time at the garden to deadhead the marigolds and pick some fresh basil. Worried that the rain wouldn't come (even though it ended up pouring about 20 minutes later), a few garden visitors watered, just in case!

Tomato Festival

The Tomato Festival was a huge success! People came and enjoyed zucchini bread, cucumber soup, gazpacho, and the garden itself. Tomatoes were picked as well as giant zucchini, huge eggplant, and some onions.

Check out our website for more pictures. Hope you can come to our next event!

Updates and Reminders

Just a reminder that the Tomato Festival will be held this SUNDAY at 4PM in the garden located behind the 100 College Arms apartment building. We look forward to seeing you!

Also, we just launched our new website!!! Check it out here.

Friday Campers

The YMCA camp made its last trip to the garden this past Friday. The campers enjoyed coloring their favorite part of the garden (flowers and cucumbers were at the top of most lists) and got to taste tomatoes and cucumbers. It was a great day in the garden which ended with a VERY successful open house and more coloring. Here are a few pictures...
